He saw her first, but his friend made the move.

She settled for the safer choice, but her heart knew the truth.

They love, they crave, they lie.

Garrett McCarthy, Annabelle Parker, and Milo Roberts were as close as friends could get. They shared in each other's joy during graduations, promotions, and engagements. They consoled one another through heartache and loss.

When one of the friend's life is tragically cut short, it's up to the two left behind to pick up the pieces and find out the truth - no matter the cost. As they slowly start to uncover the nature of his deception, and the very powerful people behind it, they begin to question everyone and everything, even themselves.

Everyone has secrets - some do it for love while others do it for power. Those secrets can change perceptions, alter reality and sometimes destroy lives.

What do you do when you find out your whole life has been a lie?

When an opportunity came up to join a book tour to review TE Sivec's newest novel, A Beautiful Lie, I jumped at the chance.  I had heard all about her Chocolate Lovers series, but with the wedding and the move and all, I haven't had a chance to read it yet.  So, of course, I jumped at the chance to review this one - and I'm going to try to review it without any spoilers, because you really should read it for yourself!

First, my only critical note of the book: The third person narrative.  I will say, it threw me for a bit of a loop.  It's really difficult for me to read books that jump from character to character.  Within one chapter, it will go from Parker's voice, to Garrett's voice... and even jump into minor characters' voices.  It was a little tough for me to get into that style of writing, I will admit.

If you can get past that style, you are in for a story of mystery, romance and intrigue... And some REALLY well written sex scenes.

The story revolves around three characters: Parker, Garrett and Milo.  The three meet in college and are instantly best friends.  A relationship develops between Parker and Milo, even though it is obvious that the true chemistry lies between Parker and Garrett.   Each character, however, has his (or her) own secrets.  And as you read through the book, secret after shocking secret unfolds.  Characters you thought you knew are suddenly revealing things you never expected.

And did I mention those sex scenes?  Completely passionate and gripping.  There's no cheesiness (I hate to admit it, but I've read a few Harlequin novels in my day, and I often find myself skipping through the love scenes to get to more plot.  And Harlequin novels aren't really known for their plots!)  Sivec writes her love scenes in a very raw and true to life manner that leaves you wanting more.

All in all, I would rate this book a 4 out of 5.  I really enjoyed this read, and definitely want to continue the series!  I would recommend it to any adults who are fans of the romantic suspense genre.
