Homemade Toothpaste, Deodorant and Face Mask - oh my!

Here is my first posting on homemade beauty products!

Homemade Toothpaste

Ingredients:

5 tbsp baking soda
4 tbsp coconut oil
Approximately 10 drops of essential oil. (I used peppermint)

*You can also add a bit of stevia or other natural sweetener if you're used to a sweeter toothpaste.

Mix all together and store in an air tight container. Baking soda will absorb smells if left to open air.

* I will be using this to test it over the next couple of weeks. I need to do some research into the fluoride in toothpaste to see just how bad it is. Baking Soda is abrasive, so be careful. There is no foaming with this toothpaste, so it feels funny.. but my teeth still feel clean!

Homemade Natural Deodorant

Ingredients:

5-6 tbsp Coconut oil
1/4 cup baking soda
1/4 cup arrowroot powder or cornstarch

Combine equal portions of baking soda & arrowroot powder. Then slowly add coconut oil and work it in with a spoon until it maintains the substance you desire. It should be about the same texture as the store bought kind, solid but able to be applied easily. You can either scoop this into your old dispensers or place in a small container with lid and apply with fingers with each use. After applying the product, you can just rub the remains into your hands as a lotion! This recipe
lasts about 3 months for two people with regular daily use.

*When I made this, it wasn't as solid as the recipe said it would be. I stored it in an old deodorant container and stuck it in the fridge. It applies great! So far so good!

Blueberry Facial Mask

Ingredients:
¼ cup local organic blueberries (these provide the most antioxidant power as they were just picked)
1 tbsp raw organic honey
1 tbsp organic olive oil

Add all the ingredients to a blender and blend well. Evenly apply all over the face, leaving room around the eyes and mouth. Leave the mask on for 5 minutes allowing it to fully sink in hydrating and nourishing the skin. Remove the mask with a damp cloth.

Tada! It was quite runny when I had to apply it, but it stuck right on and didn't move until I wiped it off. My face is extremely soft now. Try it out! (PS: I didn't use anything organic. Use your own discretion)

So far these 3 have been working wonders for me. I'm not going to lie... I'm surprised about the deodorant, but so far it's killer! Get rid of that aluminum in yours by trying out this all natural recipe... handmade from ingredients found in your kitchen!

Please let me know if you try any of these out and if they work for you. :)

  1. Just wanted to add a comment that the deodorant for sure works! I was just at a hot yoga class sweating profusely for an hour... and I do not smell. At all!
